Back to school shopping is here, but that doesn't mean you have to spend thousands or even hundreds of dollars. Check out my top 4 tips! :: www.thriftyhomeschoolers.com

When back to school season rolls around, you don’t want to be left scrambling for supplies at the last second. After all, this is the time to be prepared. Today, I’m talking to you all about how to prepare for back to school on a tight budget. I hope these tips and tricks inspire you to save some money and provide the kids with everything they need for a successful school year.

Don’t forget to enter the giveaways at the end of this post! They end Wednesday, August 14 at 11:59pm EST.

Shop Around Your House First

Chances are, you probably already have a ton of school supplies around your house. Make sure to check your junk drawer too! Most of the clothes your child has will still fit them for a while longer. So, don’t feel bad if you have to skip the back to school clothes shopping. And, you may just have a three-ring binder that you can clean out for a new purpose! Reusing items and giving them new life is a wonderful way to save money and will ultimately help you save more in the long run.

Shop at the Dollar Store

Without a doubt, the dollar store is the cheapest place to buy school supplies. So, when in doubt, check it out! You can purchase certain items for under a dollar, and those little savings will really add up! Check their school supply aisle and go nuts! Get your kids involved and allow them to pick out specific colors and styles that they will love! And don’t forget to check out the craft aisle too!

Try Gently Used Items

If a particular item is still in good condition, there is no reason not to use it to your benefit. It’s so easy to find gently used stores near you. You can also check social media for items on sale in the marketplace that might be in your area. There are so many ways to find the perfect back to school items for less when you check out things that are gently used!

Don’t have cash? Why not trade items with another homeschool family in the area? Having a curriculum swap is a great way for area families to not only meet and encourage each other, but also save a little money too!

Shop Sales and Use Coupons

This tip is genuinely one of the best things I could give to you. Many stores not only put their back to school supplies on sale, but also give their customers a rewards system. If you save up your points, you could even use them towards those more expensive back to school items! Wait for your favorite stores to have their annual sales and hit the shops then! You’ll have more luck and save more money!

While there are many easy and affordable ways to save money in the back to school season, these are my top four tips! Get creative and don’t be afraid to step outside of the box when it comes to saving money. Back to school season doesn’t mean you have to go on this wild shopping spree and spend thousands of dollars. Sometimes, all you have to do is shop smart and do your best! What are your favorite ways to shop on a budget?
